Badger's Den

TMI
8:47 a.m. - 2008-04-08

Yesterday was casual day and I wore camouflage boxers to work - :-D

Friday
9:51 a.m. - 2008-04-04

Doctor checkup yesterday - bandages off - YEA! No more fashable mummy look from the waist down. No more embarrassing dragging of a strip of bandage from my pant leg. And YEA I can take a shower again.

Went out for dinner with JB.

Eugene's birthday today. We IM'd then talked on the phone this morning.

Builder Brad is replacing my patio door today (I hope) and starting on the electrical work for the exterior lighting.

Supposed to be really nice this weekend. More YEA!!

21 and Cal
1:55 p.m. - 2008-04-02

Tired. Still. Doctor visit tomorrow. Hope for normalcy - such as it is.

Went to see "21" last night with Hector & Bob. Pretty good movie though they only loosely followed thee book according to Hector. But the changes they made improved the suspense and story line. In reality some of the technical details that I thought would make them obvious were less obvious in reality.

The main character was quite cute ;)

Now here's some Cal the Kitty pix for your enjoyment...

Caught the mouse!! Time for a nap.

Always stretch before a strenuous nap.

Bullet Points
2:03 p.m. - 2008-04-01

Liking the new D-Land format.

Feeling a bit fuzzy-brained - prolly having to work after 2+ weeks off.

Not an April Fool fan though I half expect something from Eugene.

Contractor is working on my patio door and exterior lighting this week.

I have a new doctor.

Got together with Andy on Sunday for pizza and video.

Tim and Carolyn and I went to the university debate team show on Saturday. They are good.

Went to the Euchre tournament Friday and had a good time. Spent a lot of it talking with an old acquaintance who has become a pentacostal. He asked me questions that let me talk about Eugene.

Practicing my Polish cow names for my chorus concert. We must be able to sing them VERY FAST.

Thursday, I hope to get the bandages off. Sleep comfy, wear better clothes, bend my knees. And take a shower!!!

Crappy Attitude Day
12:38 p.m. - 2008-03-28

Making an appearance in the office for awhile today. Worked from home Wed & Thurs - just way easier to work in shorts where I can also lie down with my feet up occaisionally.

Still pretty tired and hope I am up for the Euchre tournament tonight. I also have to visit the pill pushing doctor this afternoon. I am getting so tired of seeing doctors.

I finished reading Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury for our book club this month. Even though it was written 50 years ago, there are a lot of things that are still true about society. Plus the whole idea that it's not really Big Brother we have to worry about, but just the decline in the general population.

We'd much rather watch a bunch of bitchy women on (fill in the blank) reality show than something that might make us really think, that might challenge us. We'd rather be spoonfed tidbits of information than to be well informed on the subjects at hand.

I did catch a bit of the PBS special Bush's War. I learned that with all his faults, Rumsfeld at least was trying to get us out of Iraq. I just hope our next president can be more thoughtful about the war and less kneejerk. To think about what's really and truly best for both countries rather than whats best for his or her personal legacy.

Perhaps if we took into consideration what the Iraqis want it could help us with our plans. Right now I'm not sure what we should be doing.

And while I'm glad to get my 'economic stimulus' money, I do wonder what economy the vast amount of taxes I pay is stimulating. I guess I'm glad to be considered 'poor' enough to be worthy of such magnanimity.

Travel, Surgery & Eugene Update
9:34 a.m. - 2008-03-25

Long time since my last entry and lots has happened. It's Tuesday and I an back at work after two weeks out. Eugene just left this morning after a 5 day visit. So what's been going on?

Mar 8-15: Andy and I did a driving tour down to New Orleans. Warm weather was great! Mold allergy very bad. But still had a fun time. Cities visited included

Memphis - great ribs and Elvis's Graceland.
Jackson MS. modern capital
Gulfport - coastline devastated by Katrina, McDonalds and Waffles Houses springing up like flowers every 1/4 mile
Mobile - big ass battleship
Baton Rouge - "red stick" - kinda cool but why do these capitals not have a quaint restaurant district downtown?

Little Rock - Clinton Library, cool old restaurant dist. Flying Fish Restaurant.
Hot Springs, interesting glimpse into history.

In New Orleans we partied on Bourbon Street, explored the Garden District and the French Quarter, ate beignets and went to a Hornets pro-basketball game.

Unfortunately, our motel was in the upper 9th ward which looked like an abandoned city. All the empty stores, houses and office buildings made an impression. Still a ton of work after 2 1/2 years. plus my hyper-allergy to mold was triggered big time.

So got home to winter on Saturday and on Monday the 17th I had vein stripping surgery on both legs. When they tell you it's out patient surgery, do not get lulled into thinking it will be a small event. I did go home but was nauseous for 30 hours and down for several days.

Eugene came down on Thursday and helped me function and have an enjoyable weekend. We visited with JB and had several family things for the Easter holiday. We even made an appearance at Nancy's side at Easter lunch which went well.

I am wrapped like a mummy from the waist down so walking and even sitting are a bit of a challenge. The Vicodin works wonders ;) Then yesterday my new GP red me the riot act for trying to figure out if I was really having a reaction to the meds she prescribed. She wants to control the shots I guess and seems to be a pill pusher. I need to change doctors.

So I returned to work today and so far so good. Though I'd prefer to be asleep on my couch right now.

Feeling a Bit Better
9:28 a.m. - 2008-02-21

Tomorrow I see Eugene again !!!! I'm heading north which kinda defeats my desire to be in a warm climate, but I will be in a warm embrace. He's got a temporary shutdown at work so I'm taking a couple days off to give us a long weekend.

I keep pictures of him always near like these from his Christmas visit being a goof.

But before I go, I want to document some thoughts I have had the past few months.

If the Bible was "written" by God, why did Jesus not write anything? He had a good 15 years before he started preaching to jot some things down.

I absolutely hate the phrase "drink the Kool-aid" which seems to be stupidly popular in business these days. I find it offensive.

It's scary that there are people who actually watch Bill O'Reilly. Why is there so little outcry when he suggests lynching Michelle Obama? Oh, but only if there's enough evidence, so that makes it ok I guess.

Funny quote - "Right wing Christians are a queer people. Are they still Christian?"

I saw Lewis Black on Comedy Central. As a Jew, he was talking about Christianity and said some very funny but also quite true things.

Let the Jews interpret the Old Testament. Its their book and cause Christians are getting it wrong.

God was a prick in the Old Testament.

I now have plane tickets and a B&B reserved for Alaska in early September. It will be my 50th state visited.

The title of the new Bond film is "Quantum of Solace" - WTF
