Badger's Den
Water
Last weekend Eugene and I took a bus trip to Noah's Ark in Wisconsin Dells. Noah's Ark is billed as the world's largest waterpark and I believe them. At the water park we enjoyed a free buffet and some free beer in addition to the free admission. We rode a couple rides that were pretty wild. One was one of these giant funnels that you get dropped into and after swirling around several times you slide down the drain and out. One woman called it the toilet bowl. In the background you can see a big gray tube on the right and a black & white tube left of center. These were the two rides we went on.
Long lines and a short timeframe limited what we could ride on and there were dozens of rides we didn't have time for. But it was free so we didn't mind. We also wanted to ride on the Ducks, these jeep-like amphibious vehicles.
The Ducks drive around these trails on shore and then plunge into the water to cruise around in the river and lake. During one plunge the water came over the back of the Duck. Now sitting in your seat, it didn't affect anyone. But the woman across the aisle from me slid off her seat and into the aisle and took the whole cascade of water down her butt crack. Tee hee. As we got on the bus for the ride back to Eugene-ville, a woman seated up front said to Eugene (jokingly) "We saved a seat for you in the back of the bus." We both had to laugh and wonder if she realized what a racist thing she had said. On Sunday, we just hung out at the park watching the real ducks as well as boaters heading out into the lake.
Two to Go
Wow, more rats leaving the ship. Rummy, DeLay, Wolfowitz, Hastert, Rove and now Gonzales. Could it be that at least some members of this administration are listening to the voice of the people. I acknowledge that the will of the people may not always be right. But it needs to be acknowledged. And this adminstration thinks they are above the need to acknowledge what the public voice and explain their actions. It's the lack of a plan, the lack of foresight that bothers me most. That and the manipulation of people through fear.
In Need of a Cat Psychiatrist
Cal the Kitty has developed a new and strange behavior. He has been pulling blankets off my bed and dragging them down the hall while I'm at work. One day it was a queen size quilt. I folded that up and the next day it was a sheet, dragged off the bed, across the bedroom floor, down the hall to the top of the stairs. Maybe I need to set up a camera so I can see how he does it. How bizarre, how bizarre.
Greed and Glory
It will be interesting to see how China, a country rich in historical revisionism aka "If we say it, it is true" will react in a world where the individual has a choice whether or not to buy things that are Made in China. Many corporations have learned too late that even the rumor of inferior quality can drive customers away. So far their only reaction seems to be "Not all of our products are deadly." I found a recent internet article about slavery in China to be enlightening, mainly from the realization that the country with a supposed iron grip on its country really has little control when corruption is widespread. It's hardly a communist system as a feudal system. It also pointed out how China's approcah is to give a matter enough attention for it to slip out of the public conscious then resume with business/corruption as usual. Friedman may be right that (mostly) the world is flat, but there will be canyons as long as people support slavery, real or virtual. Of course I find strengthened my conviction against any individual, institution, system, government or religion that benefits from the marginalization of others. These are indications of greed and glory, the two most dangerous characteristics of humanity.
Exclamations

Magic Picnic
If it hasn't been apparent up until now, I'm using more pix in my diary (with apologies to those on slow speed connections). I will try to start new pages often. I need to catch up on some of the social functions that have gone on this summer. I already posted some pix from Brian and Wade's wedding reception. A few weeks ago, Eugene and I met in Madison during their pride weekend formerly known as The Magic Picnic. Eugene actually got those two together at a magic picnic a few years ago. We stayed at B&W's house and had a nice relaxing time. We did some biking, met up with our friend Mike, watched the parade (why do the God Hates Fags asses stand near me?) cooked out, ate at a VERY gay (and drag queen) friendly restaurant for brunch and had a great time. We also used our gay powers to send a herd of children and their parents away from our picnic table in the park. They moved from 10 feet away to a spot behind a big oak tree. Anyway, here's some pix. Breakfast with Brian (L) & Wade
State Street (not the pride party)
At the English pub with Mike. I'm enjoying my Strongbow hard cider.
"Does this make me look like Gilligan?"
The frustrating thing was that Eugene and I had planned to spend Monday together too. I was enroute Friday when I found out I had to report for Federal jury duty 8am Monday. I planned to come back Sunday evening, but the guys, okay, Eugene talked me into spending the night and leaving at 3am. Spend another night snuggled up with my sweetie? Okay, they twisted my arm. The whole thing pissed me off since Eugene was locked into his vacation day. I could at least reschedule mine. But he gets so few they are precious. Anyway, even though I was tired and cranky, I feel like I did give the alleged crack dealer a fair trial before I voted guilty. |
